Directly targeting the body’s endo-cannabinoid system could one day stop bone erosion caused by Rheumatoid Arthritis, said researchers at the Children’s Hospital of Soochow University in Suzhou, China.
The experimental animal research found that cannabinoid receptors found in the body don’t always work properly.
The researchers were able to stimulate the mammals’ own internal cannabinoids, and then apply them to the deficient receptors.
They concluded that cartilage destruction and joint inflammation, hallmarks of this extremely painful auto-immune disease, could be slowed down or completed stopped by targeting “many members” of the endo-cannabinoid system.
“The endocannabinoid system and its therapeutic implications in rhuematoid arthritis” was published in the scientific journal International Immunopharmacology in May 2015.
