Cannabis may have a beneficial effect on mood, memory, fatigue and possibly obesity in patients suffering Parkinson’s Disease and Multiple Sclerosis, according to web-based research conducted by Colorado State University through the Michael J. Fox Foundation and National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Forty percent of the 595 survey participants said they used cannabis alongside their regular medication.
- Cannabis was highly rated as an effective treatment; a 6.4 out of seven rating.
- Approximately 60% said since starting cannabis to help treat their symptoms, they used less of their pharmaceutical drugs.
On a cautionary note, the study also found that balance may be affected in some MS patients who use cannabis.
Recent research has also shown an interesting connection between and MS treatment and cannabinoid receptors.
The researchers caution that further studies are needed.
The findings were published in the journal Complementary Therapies in Medicine in July 2017.
