Cannabis for migraines

Studies out of Isreal, Italy, Spain, China, Germany and other European countries have found that chemical compounds found in cannabis can alleviate migraine symptoms in some people.

The effects of cannabinoids on the central nervous system suggest that marijuana may be a therapeutic alternative for treating migraines and bad headaches, according to a study out of Italy.

Genetics may also play a role, the researchers said, suggesting that some kind of genetic “deficiency”  may be at play.

Colorado study shows fewer migraines among cannabis users  

    • A study out of Colorado found that 121 adult migraineurs who used cannabis over a 4.5-year period suffered fewer migraines
    • Headache frequency decreased from 10.4 to 4.6 headaches per month.
    • Most study participants took cannabis daily to help ward off potential migraines.
    • Experiences with the edible forms of cannabis were reportedly more negative, with inhaling most commonly used for acute migraines among study participants.
    • Just over a tenth of participants reported negative effects when taking cannabis.
